PASTORAL MESSAGE
in Celebration of the Feast of the Holy Family 2014
for all the Faithful of the Archdiocese of Caceres

December 28, 2014

“Christian Families, Become what you are!”[1]

My dear faithful of the Archdiocese of Caceres,

I greet you all in this Season of Christmas with great joy! As I celebrate this season, my thoughts rest in you, and in every family that celebrate together the birth of our Lord, Jesus.

Today, in the Feast of the Holy Family of Joseph, Mary and Jesus, I wish to remind you of the three important truths concerning marriage and family life:

  1. Marriage and family life is a memorial. Couples and families are reminded of the grace and duty of recollecting the great works of God. God has been faithful to every family especially to your family. In turn, you, my dear parents and families are called to bear witness to the inestimable value of the indissolubility and fidelity of marriage. Lived in this way, your marriage and family life becomes a sign, a fruit and a requirement of the faithful love that God has for us.
  2. Marriage and family life is an actuation. Marriage gives parents the grace and duty of putting into practice in the present toward each other and their children the demands of love, expressed concretely in mercy, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forgiveness and thankfulness. Strengthened by the daily exercise of these and other virtues, you my beloved parents and families become holy and truly happy.
  3. Marriage and family life is a mission. Marriage gives parents and families the grace of living the faith, moved by a sense of justice and concern for others as well as by a consciousness of their responsibility towards every other families. It is a task to build up not only one’s family but also other families by sharing the gifts that each family receives. In this way, we experience our unity as one family of God loving one another as his children.

My dear parents and families, I exhort you: relive the great meaning of marriage and family life. Go back to your own Nazareth – your home, bringing with you Jesus and His Gospel and you and your entire household shall grow in knowledge, wisdom and grace before God and people!

With my prayers and blessings for in this Christmas Season!
